 Development History

2004–2008: The Beginning and Pioneering Phase

• 30/11/2004: Thanh Do Private College of Technology, the predecessor of Thanh Do University, was established.

• 2006: Renamed as Thanh Do College of Technology, the institution expanded its scale, training disciplines, and faculty. Notably, it became the first private institution in Vietnam to complete a proposal to upgrade from college to university status.

• 2008: The Thanh Do Driving Training Center was established—making Thanh Do the only private university in Vietnam to operate such a center.

2009–2014: Establishing Reputation and Expanding Development

• 27/05/2009: Thanh Do University was officially established by the Prime Minister's Decision No. 679/QĐ-TTg, based on the upgrade from Thanh Do College of Technology.

• 2012: Achieved national recognition by winning First Prize in Vietnam’s first Fuel-Efficient and Eco-Driving Competition, becoming the only university in the country to represent Vietnam at the international round in Tokyo, Japan.

• 2013: Expanded its academic offerings, launching two new majors: Pharmacy and Nursing—becoming the first private university in Vietnam to offer health sciences programs.

2014–2019: Comprehensive Reform and International Reach

• 2017: Promoted pedagogical innovation through blended learning, intensified scientific research, and progressively improved training quality in line with international standards. The university hosted a successful international conference on stem cell technology from the umbilical cord membrane, marking a milestone in building academic foundations and promoting high-impact research.

• 2018: Signed a partnership with 500 Korean enterprises under the Korea Federation of SMEs (K-Biz), becoming one of the first universities in Vietnam to commit to post-graduation employment for students.

• 2019: Restructured its governance system and officially introduced the “Thanh Do Cultural Handbook” — pioneering the institutionalization of a shared cultural framework for all faculty, staff, and students.

2020–2025: Advancing Quality and Aspiring for Greater Impact

• 2020: Achieved a 3-star rating in the University Performance Metrics (UPM) system, affirming its application-oriented training direction aligned with real-world needs.

• 2021: Earned institutional accreditation under Vietnam's higher education quality assurance standards.

• 2022: Became an international member of SPARC Europe (Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), launched the Journal of Scientific Research and Development, and achieved program-level accreditation for three undergraduate programs.

• 2023: Ranked among the Top 20 private universities in ASEAN by AppliedHE; secured additional accreditation for two undergraduate and one master's program. Significantly, the university welcomed its first cohort of PhD candidates, completing the full three-tier training structure: Undergraduate – Master’s – Doctoral.

• 2024: Finalized the university development plan, celebrated its 20th anniversary, and was honored with a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training. To commemorate its founding, May 27—the official day the university was named Thanh Do University—was designated as "Thanh Do Family Day", honoring the institution's identity and cultural values.

• 2025: Successfully launched the Nursing program to meet the growing demand for healthcare and community-based medical professionals.
